18 years ago, Fernando’s mom stood outside an abortion clinic.
Wendy was only 14 years old when she discovered she was pregnant. Fernando’s dad was 15. She was afraid to tell her parents, and her boyfriend believed abortion was the only option.
Scared and unsure of her future, she stopped by an abortion clinic after school.
But God had another plan.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.”
Jeremiah 1:5
The abortion clinic happened to be next door to a Christian pregnancy center—and Wendy walked through the wrong door.
Inside, she met a woman named Vivian.
When Wendy asked if this was where she could get an abortion, Vivian told her the abortion clinic was next door. But before letting her leave, Vivian asked one simple question: Why did she want an abortion?
Wendy shared everything: her age, her fear of telling her parents, and the pressure she felt from her boyfriend.
Vivian listened. She shared the Gospel. She told her that her baby was a beautiful gift from God. And she offered to walk alongside her.
For months, Wendy hid her pregnancy—but whenever she felt alone, she would visit Vivian.
Then, four months into her pregnancy, she fell down the stairs. Suddenly, she was afraid something had happened to her baby. She finally told her mom she needed help, and they went back to Vivian’s clinic for a free ultrasound.
Her baby was healthy.
Seeing her baby changed everything.
That day, Wendy chose life.
The years that followed weren’t always easy, but God was at work.
Today, Fernando’s parents have been together for 19 years. Fernando has graduated high school and is faithfully serving in Christian ministry. The frightened 14-year-old who once considered abortion became the mother of a young man who is now helping point others toward Christ.
And God wasn’t finished with Vivian’s faithfulness.
Years later, when one of Fernando’s high school friends became pregnant, Fernando discovered that Vivian—the same woman who had helped save his life—was helping his friend too.

One faithful “yes” can impact generations.
And last year, Fernando’s story came full circle.
Fernando and his mom attended a Youth for Life Prayer Walk together—standing outside an abortion clinic for the lives of other babies and moms facing the same decision she faced 18 years ago.
That is why we do Youth for Life.
Because there are young men and women like Fernando whose lives hang in the balance. And because sometimes, all it takes is one person willing to show up, speak truth, offer hope, and point a mom toward life.
On September 12 from 9:00–10:30 AM, in Love Life cities across the nation, young people will gather outside abortion clinics to pray, stand for life, and show their generation that every life has God-given value and purpose.
