Pretty amazing story of the VAST network of teamwork from the Church played out yesterday. One of our volunteers was at an abortion center about ten minutes from the one where I minister. This volunteer, Sharon, stopped a couple who spoke no English. She was not sure if they were even there for an abortion, but she gave them our Spanish literature with the name and number of one of our Hispanic counselors (Connie) on it. She tried to communicate that we could help and to call Connie.
I was serving on the sidewalk at a different abortion center. I got a call from Connie. A Hispanic woman had just called her. They were abortion minded but did want an ultrasound. They were headed to the abortion center where I was. Connie was at that moment on vacation in Spain!!! Yet she agreed that if I could convince the couple to go on our mobile ultrasound unit, she would translate on speaker phone….from Spain.
A while later, I saw the Hispanic couple about to drive into the abortion center. They stopped for me, and I was able to use my fledgling Spanish skills to convince them their baby was a precious gift of God and we could give them a free ultrasound and help them. One of the more aggressive women from the proabortion opposition shoved in front of me and screamed at the couple to drive into the center. They looked confused but drove slowly into the parking lot.
I called Connie and told her to call the couple. I explained what happened and told her to urge them to consider what God would have them do.
I watched as the couple picked up their phone. They looked at me. I waved and put my hands in a prayer posture. Then I motioned to them to come. To all our amazement, they did. The proabortion women shrieked in disgust as the couple drove out and followed me to the Monroe Pregnancy Center mobile ultrasound unit.
Due to HIPPA laws, I cannot tell you the details of what happened on the mobile ultrasound bus. The woman chose life and wanted a mentor, but it is a VERY hard and messy situation. She has already been connected with the mentor director, and we have House of Refuge churches poised to help her.
The Monroe HELP Pregnancy Center sonographer has also connected her with a Hispanic counselor from their facility. We both agreed this couple needed extensive counseling and help.
Praise God for the Church being present and willing to help in the time of this couple’s great need.
“Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; And let those who love Your salvation say continually, “Let God be magnified!” But I am poor and needy; Make haste to me, O God! You are my help and my deliverer; O Lord, do not delay.” – Psalms 70:4-5 NKJV
