When Faith Christian Center adopted a week with Love Life, Ryan and Alyssa didn’t expect it to change their lives.
Like many others in their church, they showed up to the prayer walk. They stood outside the abortion center with their church family, not to protest, but to pray.
That was the plan.
Just show up, walk, and pray.
But something shifted.
“It was heavy,” Alyssa said. “You could feel it. People were crying.”
They went home that day, and they couldn’t shake it. And as they talked about it, one question kept coming up:
What more could we do?
They believed in prayer.
But now they were asking what it looked like to step in.
“If we’re telling these moms to choose life, what does that look like for us?”
Ryan said it simply: “Actions speak louder than words.”
At their church, they had seen it lived out. Families were fostering. Their pastors had fostered.
This wasn’t theory. It was real.
And now it was in front of them.
They didn’t have kids of their own, but they had an extra room and a growing conviction that God was calling them to say yes.
So they did.
Six months later, they were licensed to foster.
Then came the call.
“There’s a baby. Can you take her?”
They said yes.
Two hours later, a 10 week old baby girl was dropped off on their front porch.
No experience. No roadmap.
Just a baby who needed them.
“She was sick when we got her… it was one thing after another,” Alyssa said.
It hasn’t been easy. There have been doctor visits, long drives, and the constant unknown of what will happen next.
“You try not to get too attached,” Ryan said, “but that’s impossible. The whole point is to love them like your own.”
So they have.
Today, she’s almost a year and a half old.
Healthy. Walking. Learning to pray.
And their obedience is opening doors.
“When people hear our story, it points them to Jesus.”
Ryan and Alyssa didn’t go to the prayer walk planning to foster.
Their church adopted a week.
They showed up.
They prayed.
And then they asked one simple question:
What more could we do?
Maybe you’ve felt that same question.
Don’t stop at prayer.
Ask God how He wants to use your life to create a culture of love and life.
If you’ve ever wondered what your next step could be, this is a place to start. You may not be called to foster, but you are called to be part of the solution. Through our Orphan Care initiative, there are practical ways for you and your church to step in and care for children both inside and outside the womb. Explore your next step here:
