From Homeless to Full of Hope

Jasmine* was pregnant. Living in a car. Sharing the back seat with her sister.

When she reached out to our Fayetteville Love Life team, she was hopeless and scared. But that call was the beginning of a journey she never could have imagined.

Jasmine was first in contact with our Fayetteville Love Life team. When they realized she would be moving toward the Raleigh area, they quickly connected her with Beth, our Raleigh City Director. This reflects the strength of the Love Life network. Teams work together to make sure no mom falls through the cracks.

Through Beth, Jasmine was introduced to a trained mentor and a House of Refuge Church called Calvary Church of Olivia. Although located 45 minutes outside the city, this church had faithfully supported Love Life for years. They regularly attended prayer walks and trained mentors, patiently waiting for the day a mom would need them.

That day finally came.

Jasmine had been considering adoption. Her life was full of chaos and uncertainty. She could not imagine raising a child. But when Calvary Church stepped in, everything began to change.

Beth asked Calvary if they would be willing to mentor Jasmine. Their response was immediate and enthusiastic.

They helped her find safe and stable housing where she could stay indefinitely. Then they made sure she had everything she needed for her baby. As she held the Bible they gave her and looked around at the outpouring of support, her eyes filled with tears.

“I cannot believe a church full of strangers would do this for me,” she said, overwhelmed by the love she received.

In early May, Jasmine gave birth. As she held her baby for the first time, something changed. The fear she once felt was replaced with love. The doubt turned to joy. She chose to parent.

She could not stop texting her mentor.
“Thank you. Oh, thank you so much.”

Her entire life was transformed by the love and help of the local church at the moment she needed it most.

This is why House of Refuge Churches are essential.

As abortions increasingly happen through the mail instead of in clinics, the role of the Church is more urgent than ever. Moms are no longer walking into buildings. They are making life-altering decisions in isolation. The Church must be ready to meet them right where they are.

May we be found ready. May we be found faithful.
