Love Life Seattle: A Timely Light in a Dark Place

Last week members of our leadership team visited Seattle to survey the mission field and spend time with our Seattle-area missionary, Robin Porter. We have been praying for God to raise up a leader in Seattle for several years, but the right person only emerged now. Robin is a former pastor who faithfully shepherded a local church for 23 years. God has called him into a new season to help unite and mobilize the church in Seattle to see an end to abortion in this challenging mission field.

Seattle is a pretty dark city. It stands out as one of the most secular large metro areas in the nation, with many residents disconnected from the church and biblical values.

Because of Washington State’s radical pro-abortion stance, this area is an abortion destination for many around the nation. Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, out-of-state abortions in Washington have increased by approximately 50%, women are coming especially from Texas, Idaho, Alaska, and Louisiana.

Abortion continues to rise in Washington. The number of women coming from out of state is growing, and many are given abortion pills instead of seeing a doctor. The state even pays for travel costs for women coming from elsewhere to end their pregnancies here.

We believe now is the time for the Church to rise up in Seattle. While we were at one of the area Planned Parenthoods seeking the Lord as to where our prayer walks would take place, we encountered mama “M.” She was leaving the abortion center after receiving the abortion pills, which she had not yet taken. We learned that her boyfriend had threatened to kick her out if she didn’t abort. Thankfully, we were able to offer her help and support through an amazing local ministry partner, Abundant Life.

As we seek to launch Love Life Seattle in the coming months, we ask for prayer for Robin and his small but growing team. We are still discerning the best locations for our prayer walks and seeking favor with a local business or church to use their property as a starting point.
