“And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to
keep them securely. Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened
their feet in the stocks. But at midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the
prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of
the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were
loosed. And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing
the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself. But Paul called with a loud voice,
saying, “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.” Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down
trembling before Paul and Silas. And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be
saved?” – Acts 16:23-30

Larry and Debbie Taplet are the Love Life City Directors of San Bernardino, California. A couple of weeks
ago, they saw a modern-day example of a man finding Jesus through those he was meant to guard.

Debbie relates the story below:

We were having a prayer walk at the San Bernardino Clinic but did not have an adoptive church.
Nonetheless, we still had a table set up with our information and t-shirts. As always, we spent the time
praying.

There were two security guards nearby who work for the San Bernardino Planned Parenthood. One of
the security guards asked me how they could get a T-shirt because some of his family members in Peru
are Pro-life! He wanted to send some shirts back to them. We told him we had them at the table. He
bought two of them.

The younger security guard came to us afterwards and asked if he could get one for him and his fiancee.
His name is Jordan. Karen, one of our sidewalk counselors, began to help him. I glanced at them and
saw she was praying with him. God told me to go get a Bible out of my car, which I did immediately. As
soon as I came back from my car, Karen said, “I need a Bible.”

Karen shared the Gospel, and miraculously, Jordan accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
Since that time, I have been back to the Planned Parenthood a few times. I do not see Jordan anymore. I
asked the other security guard, “What happened to Jordan?”

He said Jordan quit! He is now working on getting married.

When faithful Christians show up and boldly proclaim truth with love and compassion, people notice.
Lives are changed through the power of the Gospel to convict and to save. Chains are loosed from the
prisoners… and from the guards as well.
