Another abortion worker just quit this week in Charlotte. That makes 12 this year and 93 since we began.
When most people think of sidewalk ministry, they picture someone reaching out to a woman in crisis before she walks through the doors of an abortion center. And yes, that’s a vital part of our mission. But it’s not the whole picture.
Because inside those same walls are men and women who are broken too. Many of them are numb, others hardened, and some quietly wondering if there’s another way. These are abortion workers. And they’re not the enemy. They’re people made in the image of God, and they’re also the mission field.
Since the beginning of this year, 12 abortion workers have told our sidewalk teams they’ve left the industry. Since the ministry began, 93 workers have walked away from this deadly work.
They didn’t leave because someone shouted at them.
They left because the Church showed up week after week with truth, prayer, and compassion.
They left because someone kept saying,
“God sees you. God loves you. And there’s a way out.”
Cawana’s story is just one powerful example of what can happen when we offer hope to those working in this deadly industry.
“You’re gonna come out here with me one day.”
That’s what Cawana kept hearing as she worked inside the abortion center in Charlotte. She managed the clinic for 15 years. She trained herself to do ultrasounds. She oversaw appointments. But the voice of God kept breaking through.
“I’d come outside to smoke a cigarette, and I’d hear them praying. I’d see people in blue shirts, and I couldn’t get that image out of my head. It looked like heaven.”
At first, she brushed them off like she was told to do. But slowly, God started tugging on her heart.
It was her niece who first made her stop and really listen. Then a 13-year-old girl who didn’t want the abortion her parents were forcing her into. Cawana helped her slip out the back door and find help on the ultrasound RV.
And then came Halloween morning, the day everything changed.
“I said, I’m getting the heck out of here,” she remembers. “I walked to the curb, and Vicky prayed for me. I met Justin, and I saw his joy, and I wanted that.”
Cawana walked away from a job, yes, but more importantly, she walked into freedom. Into joy. Into a new beginning. She now uses her gifts to serve others through food, friendship, and faith. She is part of our family.
“It’s because of you that I’m sitting here today, baking these cookies with love for Life.”
This Is the Gospel on the Sidewalk
When we say we want to create a culture of LOVE and LIFE, we mean for everyone caught up in the tragedy of abortion, including those helping make it happen.
We don’t excuse what they’ve done.
But we believe in what Jesus can do.
This week, as one more abortion worker stepped away from the darkness and into the light, we were reminded again. Our mission isn’t just to stop abortions. It’s to make disciples.
To moms in crisis.
To dads who feel helpless.
And yes, to abortion workers who feel stuck.
Because when abortion workers walk away, abortion itself begins to crumble.
No abortion workers, no abortions. Every heart that turns from death to life weakens the foundation of this industry.
That’s why we do more than just reach out. We point abortion workers to a better path. We connect them with local churches who will walk with them, and we refer them to trusted recovery resources like abortionworker.com, where former workers find healing and hope.
You can be part of these stories. Your support helps us stay on the sidewalks, connect with abortion workers, and surround them with the love of Christ. Partner with us to help more workers walk away and more lives be saved by giving at lovelife.org/donate.
Because they’re not the enemy.
They’re the mission field.
