From Suicide to Salvation to Choosing Life

This is the baby girl Gena held in her arms just weeks after a suicide plan was replaced with salvation and hope. A precious life once at risk—now wrapped in love.

Gena* called our Ministry help line: suicidal, reeling from rape, pregnant, and questioning God…if there was a God. Gena was immediately connected with a Love Life team member. She answered Gena’s questions as best she could about God and His goodness in the face of evil. She shared the Gospel. At the time, she did not know that Gena had a plan in place that evening to end her own life. Instead, Gena submitted her life to Jesus and gladly accepted a Love Life mentor and help.

A local church provided a computer so Gena could work from home. A partnering trained family counselor provided biblical counseling for free. A partnering baby shower ministry, Truth and Mercy Prolife ministries, provided two years of baby clothing and supplies. The our team remained in touch with Gena over the many ensuing months, answering frequent continuing questions about God. The Love Life Mentor and her church discipled and befriended her.

On Mother’s Day, 4 weeks before her due date, Gena delivered her baby girl. She sent a photo of her baby with a poignant note in the middle of the night to the Love Life team member she originally connected with. It said: “I am so happy I chose life even with the circumstances which she was brought into this world with. There is something so special about her. I feel so close with a connection so deep…”

Rape is often used as the justification for abortion on demand for any reason. The prevailing mistaken belief is that the victim of violent assault will somehow heal by taking the life of another innocent victim by violent assault. As Gena so beautifully proved, it is with the hope of Jesus, the love and compassion of His people, and the recognition of the sacred intrinsic value of the unborn that true healing and redemption is possible.

God allows us to reach women like Gena not only at abortion centers, but also through online connections, phone calls, and relationships built by the Church. Her story is a vivid reminder of why we must continue to be present, prayerful, and ready to act. When the Church shows up with truth, love, and practical help, lives are saved and hearts are transformed.
